Merchandising Impact
Merchandising impact analytics track rule performance, pinned item impact, and margin vs conversion tradeoffs to measure the effectiveness of merchandising efforts.
Overview
Merchandising impact analytics help you understand how merchandising rules affect key metrics, enabling you to optimize rules and balance multiple objectives. All metrics are available through the UI dashboard.
Viewing Merchandising Impact
Merchandising impact analytics are available in both the Search and Collections tabs:
- Navigate to Analytics & Reporting → Search tab (or Collections tab)
- View merchandising impact metrics for aggregate searches/collections
- Drill down into specific queries or collections to see how merchandising rules affected them
Key Metrics
Rule Performance
Track how merchandising rules affect performance:
- Rule impact on impressions: How rules affect product visibility
- Rule impact on clicks: How rules affect click-through rates
- Rule impact on conversions: How rules affect conversion rates
- Rule impact on revenue: How rules affect revenue generation
- Rule impact on margin: How rules affect profit margins
View performance for: - Boost/bury rules - Pinning rules - Exclusion rules - Campaign rules
Pinned Item Impact
Measure the impact of pinned items:
- Impression lift: Increase in impressions for pinned items
- Click lift: Increase in clicks for pinned items
- Conversion lift: Increase in conversions for pinned items
- Revenue lift: Increase in revenue from pinned items
- Comparison to organic position: How pinned items perform vs. their organic ranking
Margin vs Conversion Tradeoffs
Analyze tradeoffs between different objectives:
- Conversion-focused scenario: Performance when optimizing for conversion
- Margin-focused scenario: Performance when optimizing for margin
- Balanced scenario: Performance when balancing multiple objectives
- Tradeoff visualization: See how changes in one metric affect others
Custom Metrics
You can add custom metrics to track additional aspects of merchandising impact:
- Custom business metrics: Track metrics specific to your business
- Custom rule types: Track impact of custom rule configurations
- Custom time periods: Compare impact over different time periods
Accessing Impact Data
Via UI Dashboard
All merchandising impact analytics are accessible through the merchandising console UI. View aggregate impact or drill down into specific searches or collections.
Via Analytics API
To programmatically retrieve merchandising impact data, use the Analytics API. See the Ecommerce API tab for full API documentation.
The Analytics API allows you to: - Get merchandising impact for searches or collections - Get detailed impact for specific queries or collections - Retrieve data for custom date ranges - Integrate impact data into your own reporting systems
Data Export
Export merchandising impact data from the console:
- Navigate to Analytics & Reporting → Search or Collections tab
- View impact metrics for the desired queries or collections
- Click the Export button
- Choose export format (CSV, JSON, etc.)
- Download the exported file
Best Practices
- Track all rules: Monitor performance of all active merchandising rules
- Compare to baseline: Always compare rule performance to baseline (no rules)
- Measure incrementality: Focus on incremental impact, not just absolute metrics
- Balance objectives: Consider tradeoffs between conversion, revenue, and margin
- Iterate: Continuously optimize rules based on performance data
- Test changes: Use A/B testing to validate rule improvements
