Content Analytics

Content analytics monitor facet usage, filter abandonment, sort preferences, and UI module engagement to understand how users interact with navigation and discovery features.

Overview

Content analytics help you understand how users interact with facets, filters, sorting, and UI elements, enabling you to optimize the navigation experience. All metrics are available through the UI dashboard.

Viewing Content Analytics

Content analytics are available in both the Search and Collections tabs:

  1. Navigate to Analytics & ReportingSearch tab (or Collections tab)
  2. View content analytics metrics for aggregate searches/collections
  3. Drill down into specific queries or collections to see how users interacted with content

Key Metrics

Facet Usage

Track which facets users interact with:

  • Facet clicks: Which facets get clicked most often
  • Facet selections: Which facet values users select
  • Facet abandonment: Facets that users click but don't apply
  • Top facets: Most popular facets by usage

Filter Abandonment

Measure how often users add filters but don't apply them:

  • Abandonment rate: Percentage of filters added but not applied
  • Abandoned filters: Which specific filters are abandoned most
  • Abandonment reasons: Understand why users abandon filters

Sort Preferences

Track which sort options users prefer:

  • Sort option usage: How often each sort option is used
  • Sort by query: Which sort options work best for different query types
  • Sort effectiveness: How sort options affect conversion

UI Module Engagement

Measure engagement with UI modules:

  • Module impressions: How often modules are shown
  • Module clicks: How often users interact with modules
  • Time viewed: How long users spend viewing modules
  • Module performance: Which modules drive the most engagement

Custom Metrics

You can add custom metrics to track additional content interactions:

  • Custom UI elements: Track engagement with custom UI components
  • Custom navigation paths: Track how users navigate through content
  • Custom engagement events: Track specific user interactions

Accessing Content Analytics Data

Via UI Dashboard

All content analytics are accessible through the merchandising console UI. View aggregate metrics or drill down into specific searches or collections.

Via Analytics API

To programmatically retrieve content analytics data, use the Analytics API. See the Ecommerce API tab for full API documentation.

The Analytics API allows you to: - Get content analytics for searches or collections - Get detailed analytics for specific queries or collections - Retrieve data for custom date ranges - Integrate content analytics into your own reporting systems

Data Export

Export content analytics data from the console:

  1. Navigate to Analytics & ReportingSearch or Collections tab
  2. View content analytics for the desired queries or collections
  3. Click the Export button
  4. Choose export format (CSV, JSON, etc.)
  5. Download the exported file

Best Practices

  1. Track interactions: Monitor all user interactions with content elements
  2. Identify patterns: Look for usage patterns that indicate user preferences
  3. Optimize low-usage: Improve or remove low-usage features that don't add value
  4. Test changes: A/B test navigation improvements to validate impact
  5. Mobile vs desktop: Analyze differences by device type
  6. Segment analysis: Understand how different user segments interact with content
